Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy
St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Denzil Douglas will deliver a keynote address at the second Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy scheduled for May 2 – 5 at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club, Montego Bay Jamaica. Mr. Douglas, will focus on the Role of CARICOM in facilitating regional prosperity through philanthropy-driven social and economic development.
The first conference which was held in February 2005 was hailed as a significant turning point in the region’s drive to cultivate and sustain a philanthropic culture. It opened a gateway for the building of philanthropic partnerships locally, regionally and internationally.
This conference is step two and will focus on the establishment and launch of a Philanthropic Movement throughout the region, where industry leaders would set a strategic agenda to generate and sustain philanthropic dollars within the Caribbean and the Diaspora for the reinvestment and advancement of civil society. Other speakers confirmed for the four-day conference include world-renowned actor and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Danny Glover; Earl Jarrett, General Manager, Jamaica National Building Society; Rodney Davis, President Cable and Wireless Jamaica, Marcia Brandon, General Manager, Barbados Youth Business Trust; Ulric Warner, Strategic & Administration Manager, Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited – Trinidad; Dr. Wayne Henry, World Bank and Mark Connolly, Regional Advisor on Children and AIDS-UNICEF Panama.
The conference is being organized by the University of the West Indies Development and Endowment Fund in association with the National Center for Black Philanthropy Incorporated (Washington D.C., USA).
