Staff Tutor in Drama at the Philip Sherlock Centre, Brian Heap became a third time recipient of the International Theatre Institute, Jamaica Chapter’s Actor Boy Award for Best Director at the Annual Actor Boy Awards ceremony held at the Little Theatre on March 28. This time the Best Director Award was presented for his work with the University Players’ production “The Black that I am”, which also received awards in three other categories. Playwright Karl Williams, a U.W.I. graduate, who is currently completing a post-graduate Diploma in education, was presented with the award for Best New Jamaican Play, while Edna Manley College graduate Monique Caesar received the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The overall production was also acknowledged as Best Drama for 2005. The University Players which was revived by Mr. Heap in 2003, has risen quickly to national prominence as a result of its quality productions, most of which are of a less commercial or experimental nature
