Gender and Development Studies

The Mona Campus Unit, Centre for Gender and Development Studies, takes this opportunity to welcome its new Head / Senior Lecturer, Dr. Leith Dunn to the University community.
Dr Leith L. Dunn is a Jamaican social scientist with a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Languages and Social Sciences and a M.Sc. in Sociology and Social Psychology from the University of the West Indies.
Dr Dunn has over 20 years experience working as a University Lecturer, social policy researcher and analyst, trainer and programme manager. She has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has researched and published extensively in the fields of social policy analysis, gender and development, child labour, tourism, civil society management and governance. Dr. Dunn has worked with several local, regional and international development institutions including the United Nations and the Commonwealth, as well as British, Canadian, Jamaican and Caribbean agencies including the church. With fluent Spanish, Portuguese and French, she has traveled extensively for work and study and has served as interpreter for a number of state visits.
Dr Dunn was also a member of the Commonwealth Observer Group for the 2002 Presidential elections in Zimbabwe. She recently worked as Assistant Representative with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Office for the English and Dutch-Speaking Caribbean.
Dr Leith Dunn is married to Dr Hopeton Dunn, Communications Policy Analyst, Chair in Telecommunications Policy and Management, Mona Institute of Business at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and Chairman of the Creative Production and Training Centre. They have two adult children and have co-authored a number of publications. The most recent of these is ‘People and Tourism: Issues and Attitudes in the Jamaican Hospitality Industry’, Arawak Publications, Kingston 2002.
