UWI Lecturer receives Global Family Doctor Award
Dr Tomlin Paul, lecturer in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry has been selected by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) as the “Global Family Doctor” for May 2006. The "Global Family Doctor of the Month" Award is given to encourage philanthropy among primary care practitioners and to honour doctors giving their time and expertise to their global colleagues and their patients. The award is given to doctors who are recognised by their colleagues as having contributed significantly to the community in which they work by way of their practice, community involvement, charity work or other humanitarian acts.
Dr Paul, who is currently the Undergraduate Programme Coordinator in the Section of Community Health in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry at UWI, Mona, is involved in training medical students in primary care and family medicine. He is a founding director of Health Plus Associates, a family medical centre in Kingston, and a regional Vice-President of the Caribbean College of Family Physicians. For the Global Family Doctor Award, Dr Paul will receive a Certificate of Commendation from WONCA and a complete office diagnostic set (worth approximately US$400) from Welch Allyn International.
