Caribbean Migration: Forced and Free Conference – June 12-14
The Most Hon. PJ Patterson will officially open the Conference on “Caribbean Migration: Forced and Free” on Monday June 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. UWI, Mona Campus.
During the ceremony, Professor Harry Goulbourne of London South Bank University will give a lecture entitled “Forced and Free Caribbean Migration: An Understanding of Modern Diasporas”. In addition, two books will be launched Regional Footprints: the Travels and Travails of Early Caribbean Migrants edited by Annette Insanally, Mark Clifford and Sean Sheriff and Returning to Source” edited by Frances Henry and Dwayne E. Plaza. The conference which will continue on June 13 and 14 will immediately precede a conference on the Diaspora being organized by Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in association with the UWI (June 15-16). It is anticipated that the linkages between the themes of the two conferences will enrich both.
