Residing Students - Hurricane tips

1. Pack up all personal effects.
2. Unplug electrical equipment and secure
them in plastic.
3. Protect valuables, documents, etc from
water damage by securing them in plastic.
4. Move furniture and equipment away from
windows and doors.
5. Arrange with your Student Services Manager
for safe storage of private and University
property.
6. When the Campus is declared closed, the
following: actions are desired:
• Jamaican students are encouraged to go
home,
• Overseas students are to act in accordance
with the dictates of their respective
Government in concert with the Office of
Student Services.
• Departing students should ensure that they
are booked/ logged out of residence.
7. Provisions are made to accommodate all
students wishing to remain on campus during
a hurricane,
• The Campus will operate a Hurricane Shelter.
• The Shelter will be at the Assembly Hall.
• The facility will be opened 48 hours before
the Hurricane is scheduled to make landfall.
8. All students remaining on Campus are
required to go to the Hurricane Shelter.
9. In preparation for your move to the
shelter, pack the following items:
Blankets, Flashlight and Batteries, Change
of clothing (1 or 2), Food and water for
twenty-four (24) hours (drinking water–2
liters per person per day), Hygiene
articles, First Aid items, Medication (if
required) and Portable Radio and Batteries.
10. Students should arrive at the shelter no
later than 12 hours before the hurricane is
schedule to make landfall.
11. Each student is required to take their
mattress to the front of the Hall of
Residence. From here, students and their
shelter items will be transported to the
Hurricane Shelter.
