The Universities Consortium of Small Island States (UCSIS), and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Office for the Caribbean, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, August 2 to establish a Cooperation Programme on capacity building for implementation of the 1994 Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (BPOA), and the 2005 Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small island Developing States (SIDS).
UCSIS is a collaborative effort of The University of the West Indies, University of Malta, University of Mauritius, University of the South Pacific and the University of the Virgin Islands. The Secretariat will be based at the University of the West Indies.
