Literacy Skills Workshop
The UWI Mona Library, through its Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU), held a 5-day summer workshop on information literacy skills recently specifically for high school students. Twenty-three participants from 12 schools in Kingston and rural Jamaica namely: Ardenne, Camperdown, Campion, Garvey Maceo, Immaculate, Jamaica College, Kingston Technical, Merl Grove, Mona High, Papine High, St. Jago and Wolmer’s Boys’. In addition, Mr. Duane Burke, teacher-librarian at Immaculate Conception High attended.
The programme aimed to increase information literacy skills among participants, help students better make the transition from high school to university, further links between high schools and the UWI and improve research readiness among incoming UWI Mona students.
