Commonwealth Secretary-General Gives Lecture at UWI, Mona
Rt. Honourable Don McKinnon, the Commonwealth Secretary-General will give a lecture entitled “Small Islands, Big Spirits- the Caribbean in the Commonwealth” at the Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) on Thursday, February 8 at 6:00 pm. His lecture is a part of the UWI Distinguished Lecture Series 2000 and Beyond, organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
Rt. Honourable Don McKinnon is a New Zealander who has an extensive and distinguished career in international politics and diplomacy having served for 21 years in New Zealand politics.
In his capacity as Commonwealth Secretary-General, Rt. Hon. Don McKinnon has made significant improvement in several areas including: modernizing the Commonwealth Secretariat’s structure and internal organization. Additionally, he has been instrumental in promoting youth programmes, particularly in relation to HIV/AIDS; and defending the rights of small states, ensuring that their special vulnerabilities are recognized and their interests promoted on the international agenda.
