Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week 2007
The Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week take place at the University of the West Indies, Mona over the period February15-23, 2007.
The Commemoration Celebrations which began in 2001 provide an opportunity to celebrate the founding of the University and recognize its regional nature, while engendering a greater sense of belonging and develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and graduates. Each year, the celebrations are dedicated to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the institution.
For 2007, the honouree is Eminent Historian, Dean and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Sir Roy Augier. He is being recognized for over fifty years of service and his overall involvement in the life of the university as a Pro-Vice Chancellor, and service to the wider Caribbean.
The Commemoration Dinner is the highpoint of the 2007 Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week and is being held in honour of Professor Sir Roy Augier. This event takes place at “The Ruins”, Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre on Friday, February 23 at 7.00 p.m.
On Monday, February, 19 the Official Naming Ceremony of International Centre for Environmental & Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) Building in recognition of the Honourable Professor Gerald Lalor, Professor Emeritus and Director General took place. Several other activities are scheduled take place throughout the week to mark the celebrations including: Integrated Thursday Lyme on Thursday, February 22 and Special Students Alumni Forum under the theme The New Convention for persons with Disabilities: Implications and Results.
