The University of the West Indies has learnt with deep regret the recent passing of a former colleague, Dr. George Wadinambiaratchi, in Toronto, Canada. The University community extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Wadi in their time of loss.
Dr. Wadinambiaratchi joined UWI in 1969 and remained until he retired in 1990. During his tenure he was a popular and senior member of the Department of Management Studies at Mona, St. Augustine and Cave Hill campuses, serving as head of the department at Mona and St. Augustine. His research focused on retailing, particularly in developing countries. One of his earlier articles, Channels of Distribution in Developing Countries, Business Quarterly, Vol. 30, 1965, is today considered a seminal piece of work and is still widely quoted in the academic literature. He taught marketing management, using the case method of teaching, to hundreds of students in Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad as outlined in a tribute to him by Chris Ross.
