‘After Mrs. Rochester’ - A Play about West Indian Writer Jean Rhys
After Mrs. Rochester’ opens at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona on Friday, October 13 at 8 pm and plays for eight performances only until October 22. Performances take place on October13-14 at 8:00 p.m and 15 -16 at 6 pm as well as October 19 - 21 at 8:00 p.m. and October 22 at 6:00 p.m. ‘After Mrs. Rochester’ is a celebrated Polly Teale’s play which looks at a complex and exhilarating study of the life of one of the West Indies’ most distinguished literary personalities, the Dominican writer Jean Rhys. It features award winning University Players Karl Williams, Jean-Paul Menou, Noelle Kerr, Cecile Strudwick, Veronica Salter, Carla Moore and Denara Karamath. The cast is headed by Hilary Nicholson who plays the mature Jean Rhys, Maylynne Walton plays Rhys as her younger self, Ella, and Nadia Kahn plays Bertha Mason (the first Mrs. Rochester from Jane Eyre). Veteran Stage performer Rooney Chambers returns to the stage after a number of years absence to play the multiple roles.
