Geosciences for Development Week
The Geological Society of Jamaica (GSJ), in celebrating its Geosciences For Development Week 2006, November 26 – December 3, will mount an exhibition under the theme "Jamaica’s Energy Sources" on November 28 and 29 at the Old Dramatic Theatre, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. There will be an Opening Ceremony at 9: 30 am where the Governor General, His Excellency the Most Honourable Professor Kenneth Hall will declare the exhibition open. Dr. Cezley Sampson, consultant on energy and public sector reform in the Cabinet Office, will be the guest speaker for this Ceremony.
For the Closing Ceremony which takes place at in the Old Dramatic Theatre at 1 pm on November 29, Dr. Ian Mallory, Vice-President Sealand NG Ltd, will be the guest speaker. There will also be presentation of awards for the energy poster competition at this event.
This exhibition is aimed at fostering an awareness and appreciation of the importance of earth science to Jamaica. Geosciences for Development Week will also provide an excellent opportunity for the public to learn more about the environment and will certainly be beneficial to students studying for GSAT, CXC and CAPE. It also provides opportunity for various public and private sector organizations involved in the application of the earth sciences in Jamaica to showcase their activities.
