Foreign Language Assistants Programme in France
The Embassy of France is allocating positions to Jamaican English Language Assistant each academic year in the mainland of France as well as in the Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The programme aims to allow Jamaican foreign assistants to master the French language and customs while providing French students with the authenticity of their language and the richness of their culture.
This programme is open to Jamaican professionals and students aged 20 to 30. All candidates should have the equivalent of an Associate Degree and a fair knowledge of spoken French.
During the academic year, assistants will spend a period of 6 to 9 months according to the level they will be teaching.: 9 months in Primary school, from October 1 to June 30; 7 months n Primary or secondary school from October 1 to April 30 and 6 months in a Teachers’ College form October 1 to March 31.
Assistants will work 12 hours weekly and receive a monthly gross salary of approximately 900 Euros, while the round trip to France will be at the candidate’s expense (ticket must be valid during the whole duration of the work contract).
Application forms for this programme will be available from December at the Embassy of France, the University of the West Indies(Department of Modern Languages), UTech (Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies), Shortwood Teachers’ College (Department of Modern Languages) and the Northern Caribbean University. If the application is approved, the candidate will be asked to attend a final selection mid-January.
