Inside Hillview High School: An Ethnographic Study of an Urban Jamaican School

The UWI Press has recently published Inside Hillview High School: An Ethnographic Study of an Urban Jamaican School by Hyacinth Evans. It is a detailed case study of a Jamaican high school, formerly known as a junior secondary high school. Evans’s research demonstrates the continuing education problem encountered by students and teachers in a two-tiered educational system.
Evans provides several solutions for the transformation of schools as places for learning and character development, and this publication is a useful resource for teachers and students in the fields of education and cultural studies. It is also relevant to historical courses with a focus on the effects of colonialism on the education system in former colonies.
Inside Hillview High School is now available and interested persons can order books directly from the UWI Press, the University Bookshop or other booksellers.
