Launch of Professor Hyacinth Evans’ Book-“Inside Hillview High School”
The UWI Press in collaboration with the Institute of Education, UWI, Mona will launch the book “Inside Hillview High School: an ethnography of an urban Jamaican school” by Professor Hyacinth Evans on Wednesday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Multifunctional Room of the Main Library, UWI, Mona. The guest speaker for the event will be Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Elsa Leo-Rhynie. The public is invited to this book launch.
The book is a detailed case study of a Jamaican high school, formerly known as a junior secondary high school. Evans’s research demonstrates the continuing education problem encountered by students and teachers in a two-tiered educational system. She provides several solutions for the transformation of schools as places for learning and character development, and this publication is a useful resource for teachers and students in the fields of education and cultural studies. It is also relevant to historical courses with a focus on the effects of colonialism on the education system in former colonies.
