Renowned Novelist Reads at UWI, Mona

The Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona, in collaboration with the Jamaica National Bicentenary Committee, invites the University community and the public to hear acclaimed Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe read from his work on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 4 pm at the Undercroft. A prolific novelist, poet and essayist, Chinua Achebe is best known for the canonical texts: Things Fall Apart (1958), No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964), A Man of the People (1966) and Anthills of the Savannah (1987). Professor Achebe will read from Things Fall Apart, as well as from his poetry, before taking questions from the audience. A book signing will follow.
He will also make an address at the Cultural Rally to be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Emancipation Park, in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
