Anniversary of the 1907 Earthquake Presentation
The Jamaican Historical Society will mark the anniversary of the 1907 earthquake with two presentations on Tuesday, January 23, in the Multifunction Room of the Main Library, UWI, Mona at 6:00 p.m. This is in keeping with January being declared as Earthquake Awareness month by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM). Dr. Margaret Wiggins-Grandison of the Earthquake Unit, Department of Geography and Geology, UWI and M.A. student Antoinette Brown of the Department of History and Archaeology will make presentations on the topic “The 1907 Earthquake”. Ms. Brown will share specifically on The Role of the Catholics in the Aftermath of the Earthquake.
The Institute of Jamaica also mounted an exhibition to mark the centenary of the earthquake on Sunday, January 14 and will run until the end of February. The University community and public are invited to these events.
