The Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Child Health, UWI, Mona will host its 6th Annual Perinatal Conference 2007 from February 9-10 in the Main Medical Lecture Theatre located at the University Hospital of the West Indies. This year’s Conference theme is “Perinatal Nutrition.” The keynote address will be given by Professor Alan Jackson on ‘Long term Effects of impaired in utero nutrition.’ Professor Jackson is Director of the Institute of Human Nutrition, University of Southampton and a Registered Public Health Nutritionist and Honorary Member of the Nutrition Society. He was trained in paediatrics at the University of Cambridge and University College Hospital London.
In addition to the keynote address on day one of the Conference, there will be workshops on the following topics: Breastfeeding, Maternal Nutrition hosted by Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI), Ultrasound assessment of foetal growth and Obesity in pregnancy. Day two will feature several workshops addressing issues such as: Nutritional management of the diabetic mother, Breastfeeding and the HIV positive mother, Anaemia in pregnancy and Nutritional requirements during pregnancy and lactation. CME credits will be awarded for participation.
