Advancements in Medicine Conference
“Advancements in Medicine 2007: A US and Caribbean Perspective” is the theme for the first Annual Medical Conference of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. The Conference is being held in collaboration with Mayo Clinic of Minnesota, The University of Minnesota, Ministry of Health and Organization for Strategic Development in Jamaica (part of the Jamaica Diaspora), from February 15-17 at the Breezes Hotel, Runaway Bay, St. Ann. The event opens with a Ceremony on February 15 at 3:00 pm at the hotel. The Ceremony will be followed by the first scientific session where issues on HIV and Vaccines and Malaria and Global Changes will be discussed. The Barry Wint Memorial Lecture will then be given by The Honourable, Sir George Alleyne, Chancellor, UWI. The Lecture is in honour of the late Dr. Barry Wint who was the Chief Medical officer at the Ministry of Health and was instrumental in creating links between Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and the UWI.
Scientific Sessions highlighting various topics such as: Epilepsy, Rheumatic Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke and Drug Abuse will take place over the following days. The Conference activities will then close with a Dinner. CME Credits is provided for this Conference.
