Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week 2007
The annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week at the Mona Campus take place over the period February 15-23 under the theme “A Celebration of Excellence.” The honouree for this year is Eminent Historian, Dean, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Roy Augier. The celebrations commemorate the founding of the University and are part of efforts by the Campus to engender a greater sense of belonging, develop a feeling of camaraderie among staff, students and graduates as well as to highlight the regional nature of the University.
The celebrations officially begin with an Opening and Flag Raising Ceremony at 5 pm at the Assembly Hall. Other activities include: Caribbean Day, where the various island associations at the University of the West Indies, Mona showcase the culture of their countries; a Track and Field Invitational at Stadium East and Commemoration Concert and Pelican Awards. The Pelican Awardees are: Dr. Audia Zeane Barnett and Dr. C.L. Andre Gordon Additionally there will be a Commemoration Service and an Official Naming Ceremony in honour of Professor Gerald Lalor at the International Centre for Environmental & Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) Building.
