Social History Project Exhibition -'History of Cricket in Jamaica, 1870 to the Present'

Befitting with the Caribbean’s preparation for the hosting of the ICC Cricket World Cup in March an exhibition has been mounted on the history of Cricket in Jamaica in the Library's Catalogue hall, UWI, Mona. The Exhibition has been mounted since the beginning of February and may be viewed until the end of the month.

This is the second exhibition produced by the Department of History and Archaeology, UWI, Mona's Social History Project (SHP), and was researched by Dr. Julian Cresser. The Exhibition traces the development of the game from the earliest elite clubs of the middle of the nineteenth century through the growth of black and coloured middle-class and working-class teams, to the more democratic modern era of the sport in which women's cricket and gender-integrated blind cricket occupy a place on the national and regional agenda. The exhibition was launched previously at the National Library of Jamaica on James Carnegie, well known Sports Historian and Project Development Officer with the National Independence Park Limited.

It will be mounted in the Devon House mansion during March and April before being taken to other parishes.
