13th International Diabetes Conference
The 13th International Diabetes Conference hosted by the University Diabetes Outreach Programme in collaboration with the Caribbean Institute of Nephrology (CIN) and Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI) will be held at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, Montego Bay from Thursday, March 1 to Sunday, March 4 under the theme: “The Diabetic Kidney”. Kidney disease is a serious complication of diabetes which can be prevented with proper management. The conference will highlight the importance of the kidneys in the life of the person with diabetes and also bring to the fore issues relating to the prevention, treatment and management of diabetes.
The Opening Ceremony takes place on Thursday, March 1 at 11:00 am and will be followed by the Sir Alister McIntyre Distinguished Lecture to be delivered by Dr. Jean Marie Ekoe, Professor of Medicine, University of Montreal, Canada. The keynote address at the Opening Ceremony will be delivered by Professor the Honourable, Lawson Douglas, Chairman of the Kidney Foundation of Jamaica and Sir Phillip Sherlock Distinguished Awardee.
During the four days of Conference several scientific sessions will be held discussing topics including: Risks of Developing Diabetes, can Diabetes Mellitus be Prevented? Nutrition and Management of the Failing Kidney and the Child in All this. The Conference activities close with a Dinner at which The Most Honourable Hugh Shearer Memorial Lecture will be given.
