"Jamaica’s Political Development: The Way Forward”

The Jamaica Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Association (JFHAA), with the support of the United States Embassy will present a lecture by Professor Trevor Munroe, entitled “Jamaica’s Political Development: The Way Forward” at Sts. Peter & Paul Church Hall on Thursday March 8 at 5:30 p.m. This is a part of the Fulbright-Humphrey Quarterly Alumni Speaker Series which is aimed at positively stimulating, enlightening and informing public discourse on issues of national significance.

Professor Trevor Munroe is a Professor of Government and Politics in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and is one of the recipients of the 2007 Mona Principal’s Award for Research. He is a Rhodes Scholar and Fulbright alumnus; the recipient of an honorary Doctorate from Florida International University (FIU). In addition, he is the co-host of “Breakfast Club,” author and consultant on issues of democracy, regional and hemispheric security, drugs, and corruption. Professor Munroe is also the Founding Director of Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) and is author of the Transparency International Country Report on Jamaica.

Professor Munroe is the immediate past president of the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU), having served for several years in labour force development. He is currently a government Senator, focusing on policy issues such as the Charter of Rights, Access to Information and Flexible Working Arrangements.
