The Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences in collaboration with the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute for Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), will host a banking forum under the theme “Banking on Sustainable Development.” The Forum will be followed by the launch of a book authored by senior lecturer in the Department of Management Studies, Dr. Jenifer Daley. The book is entitled “Examining Bank Failure in Developing Countries: Lessons from Jamaica” and focuses on the Jamaican banking crisis of the 1990s. The Forum and the Launch will be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Tuesday, March 6 at 12 noon and 3:30 pm respectively.
The Forum will take the form of round table discussions involving regulators, academics and members of the private sector where the theme will be explored under various sub-headings to highlight issues of continuing relevance to banks, and the symbiotic relationship between banks and the wider economic environment.
The keynote address at the book launch will be delivered by Professor Kent Matthews, Sir Julian Hodge Professor of Banking and Finance at the Cardiff Business School, University of Wales, United Kingdom.
