Workshop on Protecting, Marketing and Licensing Research Results

The World Intellectual Property Organization will mount a workshop in Jamaica between April 30 and May 4 on the theme “Protecting, Marketing and Licensing Research Results”. Local collaborating institutions are the University of the West Indies, the Scientific Research Council, Jamaica Trade and Invest (JAMPRO), the Jamaica Intellectual Property Organization and the National Commission on Science and Technology. The venue will be the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI.

The objective of the Workshop is to provide the knowledge and expertise about protection and exploitation of intellectual property rights to enable development and commercialization of such research. The target groups are researchers and administrators in Universities and research institutions, persons in the private and public sectors engaged in research, innovative activity and the generation of intellectual property, and attorneys-at-law.

The sessions will be led by WIPO officials, local experts, US-based patent attorneys, as well as international experts in the marketing and licensing of intellectual property rights.

The Workshop will begin with an Opening Ceremony on Monday, April 30 at 9.30 a.m., at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona Campus.

Senator the Hon. Kern Spencer, Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce will give the Keynote Address.
