UWI Games 2007 Starts Off With A Blast
The UWI Games Opening Ceremony begins the seven days of sporting activities scheduled to take place from May 17-24, 2007 at UWI, Mona. The Ceremony will be held at the Assembly Hall, UWI, Mona at 8 pm. The guest speaker will be Mike Fennel, President of the Jamaica Olympic Association and the Commonwealth Olympic Association. The Games will be declared opened by Asafa Powell, world’s fastest man. The Opening Ceremony will also feature performances from various University groups including the University of the West Indies, Mona Drum Corp and the University Singers.
The UWI Games is organized to encourage a sense of camaraderie and healthy rivalry among UWI students in order to build excellence in character outside of the classroom environment. The event also provides an ideal opportunity for alumni, current staff and students to interact as well as features competition in ten sporting disciplines.
