Embracing Nanotechnology
Renowned Nanotechnologist, Professor David Hui, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Orleans, USA was the key presenter at a seminar entitled “Nano-Mechanics of Composite Materials.” The seminar took place on Monday, June 25 at the Physiology Lecture Theatre, Department of Basic Medical Sciences. The presentation will involve discussions on nano-materials technology from the point of view of nano-engineering, composite materials nano-fabrication, applications in harsh environments and in humanitarian aid projects. The concepts of multifunctional use of engineered nano-materials will be emphasized. He will also hold discussions with faculty members and research students interested in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
These seminars are being organized jointly by the Department of Chemistry and Basic Medical Sciences to initiate seminars in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at UWI, Mona with the anticipation for future collaboration in joint Nanotechnology-based research and joint proposal development.
Professor Hui is also the Chairman/Coordinator of the International Conference on Composites/Nano Engineering (ICCE), which has grown to be the World’s pre-eminent annual “technical” composite materials and nano-materials conference. He serves on the editorial board of 25 International Journals, seven of them being Nano journals. He has been very successful in promoting and directing federally and internationally funded multi-universities partnerships on nano-materials or composite materials. He has published several books and has over 300 refereed or peer-reviewed journal publications.
