UWI, Mona to Host 57th General Assembly of the IFMSA
The Jamaica Medical Students' Association (JAMSA) of the University of the West Indies, Mona will host the 57th General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students' Association (IFMSA) from August 3-13, 2008 at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. This was announced during the 5th plenary session of the 56th August General of the IFMSA, hosted at the University of Kent, United Kingdom earlier this month.
The candidate countries bidding to host the 57th General Assembly of the IFMSA were: Canada, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Macedonia and Jamaica. The General Assembly which will be held UWI, Mona will host at least 600 students from across the world.
The IFMSA represents 97 countries (Full, Candidate and Associate members) through 103 National Member Organisations to which Jamaica became a member in 2000.
The Jamaican delegation is headed by JAMSA president and Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee, Kevin Henry and Co-Chair, Dr. Stefan Hemmings (JAMSA and UWI-Alumnus).
The support from the UWI was outstanding and will continue over the next year during the celebration of UWI’s 60th Anniversary in 2008.
