Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Public Lectures
As part of its effort in creating increased national awareness in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health issues, the Department of Chemistry, UWI, Mona through its Programme in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (OESH) has organized three public lectures. These lectures take place on Monday, July 2, between 1 pm and 4 pm, in the Chemistry Lecture Theatre 2 (C2).
The presenters will be Professor Harri Vainio who will deliver a lecture on “External Causes of Cancer - A Global Perspective” and Dr. Michael Morgan on “Biomarkers of Health Risks in the Workplace: New Developments and New Challenges. Dr. Martin Harper will also present a lecture entitled “Beryllium exposures: Health and Safety issues.”
Professor Harri Vainio is the Director General of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health since 2003. He is a physician and a Registered Toxicologist and has served as Professor of Toxicology, University of Kuopio, School of Pharmacology, Professor in Risk Assessment in Environmental Medicine, University of Stockholm. Professor Michael Morgan is a Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Washington, since 1998. He is also a former Director of Northwest Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, University of Washington. Dr. Martin Harper is an Adjunct Professor in the Industrial Hygiene Programme of the West Virginia University and is also Chief of the Exposure Assessment Branch of the Health Effects Laboratory Division of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), USA.
