PAN AFRICAN SUMMIT

A Pan African Summit led by veterans in the movement is being held in Jamaica from Sunday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 18. The Summit opened at Liberty Hall on Sunday, July 15 at 10 am with the formal opening beginning at 12 noon. The Opening Ceremony was preceded by cultural presentations and tours of the Liberty Hall Museum. At the ceremony there were addresses delivered by Dr. Julius Garvey, the son of Jamaica’s first national hero, Marcus Garvey who will spoke on Garvey and the Pan African Movement and His Excellency, Honourable Dudley Thompson shared on the Pan African History and Vision.

The official opening is followed by three days of presentations, July 16-18, at Chemistry 5, UWI, Mona running from 10am to 7 pm daily. The keynote address on Monday, July 16 at 6 pm will be given by His Excellency Dudley Thompson on Pan African Vision: Sankofa and Dr. Len Jefferies, distinguished Professor of African Cultures will give the keynote address on Tuesday, July 17. Over these three days several topics will be discussed including: Building Principled and Unified Leadership, Organizations in Africa and the Diaspora, Organizing Reparation for True Success, Developing an Education System that Answers the Needs of African People and The Importance of Repatriation to African Development. Among the speakers presenting are: Elombe Brath, leader of the Patrice Lumumba Coalition and Nana Farika Berhane, Queen Omega Communications.

The Summit is aimed at examining the issues faced by African descendants in the 21st century and beyond in order to create forward –thinking, innovative solutions to address these issues and to lay the foundation to organize and unite Africans and the Diaspora as well as plan towards constructive reunification for sustainable development.
