Professor Barbara Bailey Receives Ninth CARICOM Triennial Award
Professor Barbara Bailey, University Director, Centre for Gender and Developmental Studies is the recipient of the Ninth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women, 2008. The decision to select Professor Bailey for this award was taken by Members of the Regional Selection Sub-Committee, and subsequently supported by the CARICOM Members states.
Professor Bailey joins a cadre of seven highly esteemed and outstanding women of the Caribbean who were recognized for their dedication and determination in broadening the parameters of existence for women and improving their economic, social, political, cultural and legal status. Previous awardees include Her Excellency, Dame Nita Barrow, Dr. Peggy Antrobus, Dr. Lucille Mathurin Mair, and Justice Desiree Bernard.
The award to Professor Bailey will be presented at the Opening Ceremony of the Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from July 2-4, 2008.
