UWI Singers 50th Season Begins on May 29
The University Singers is celebrating its Golden Jubilee and will stage its special fiftieth anniversary Concert Season, beginning May 29, 2008. Audiences will be able to re-experience some of the group’s best works, as the repertoire this year consists mainly of favourites from former years. This Jubilee Concert Season will last until June 29 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts. Each show begins nightly at 8:00 p.m., Thursdays to Sundays, with an additional matinee show on Sundays, starting at 4:00 p.m.
The Choir began its Anniversary celebrations in December 2007 with the launch of its Christmas music CD Season of Light and Mango Time, a book of Jamaican folk songs collected by Musical Director Noel Dexter and past singer Godfrey Taylor.
The University of the West Indies will see two homecoming events, with the simultaneous celebration of the University Singer’s Fiftieth Anniversary and the University’s Sixtieth Anniversary. Alumni and past University Singers from all across the globe will be gathering on the campus grounds later this year for a grand gala celebration.
