Signing of MOU Between Department of Physics and CERE
The Department of Physics, UWI, Mona will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for collaborative research in alternative energy with the Centre for Excellence in Renewable Energy (CERE) and Wigton Windfarm Limited (WWFL). The signing takes place on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2:15 pm at the Inter Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.
The MOU will serve to identify how each of the parties involved can best contribute to research and development in Alternative Energy in Jamaica. The MOU aims to among other things, encourage investment for research and development, increase training and job opportunities for students entering the field, educate the public on the effects of their current fuel use on climate change and to conduct research in Alternative (Renewable) Energy.
The signing is a part of the Department of Physics Homecoming Conference which is in celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary. The University of the West Indies offers degree programmes in Alternative Energy and is moving towards the establishment of an Alternative Energy Unit within the Department of Physics.
