UWI Summer Football Mania 2008
The Sports Department at the UWI, Mona is hosting the inaugural staging of the UWI Summer Football Mania, themed “Unearthing Talent”, aimed at offering a productive alternative for youth during the summer months. The Summer Mania takes place from Monday to Friday, July 21 to August 1, 2008 at the UWI Mona Bowl.
It caters to children ages 9 to 17 years who are interested in football at the recreational and competitive levels. Neville Bell and Vin Blaine, former national coaches and current coaches of the UWI Football teams, will headline the list of national coaches. Former national players, and licensed experts will also prepare each camper with the technical and tactical knowledge they will need for the furtherance of their sporting talents. The Summer Mania will cover technical and tactical preparation including dribbling, finishing and defending.
The UWI Memorial Shield Football tournament culminates the Football Mania. Athletes will participate in top level matches in a bid to secure University Sports Scholarships and as preparation for the upcoming football season. The tournament takes place on August 2, 2008 and will showcase the top teams in the island.
