Walter Rodney Conference

The Institute of Caribbean Studies and the Centre for Caribbean Thought, in collaboration with the Guild of Students at The University of the West Indies, Mona and the Africana Studies Department at Brown University has organized the historic Walter Rodney Conference on October 16-18, 2008. The Conference will mark the 40th anniversary of the organized student protests in Jamaica that were occasioned by the banning of Walter Rodney from Jamaica.

The Conference will explore the legacy of Walter Rodney through presentations on topics including: Student Activism in the Contemporary Caribbean; Grassroots Journalism; Rodney, Revolution and Popular Music; Gendering Black Power; and Oral Histories of the Rodney Protests.
