“Catch a Fire”

As a way of highlighting the significance of Jamaica’s culture and heritage The University of the West Indies, Mona hosts a series of activities in October, the month in which National Heroes’ Day is observed. The events are aimed at commemorating some of Jamaica’s significant historical events.  The first of these activities is the showing of a documentary titled “Catch a Fire” on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. The documentary focuses on the Paul Bogle and the Morant Bay Rebellion. Following the documentary showing will be a panel discussion with Cecil Gutzmore, Assistant Lecturer, Institute of Caribbean Studies, UWI, Mona and script writer of the documentary, and Dr. Clinton Hutton, Lecturer, Department of Government, UWI, Mona.

Upcoming activities include the Walter Rodney Conference taking place on October 16-18, 2008 and the showing of other documentaries on October 24 and 31.

The public is invited. Admission is free.
