Inaugural Professorial Lecture- “Race, the Civilizing Mission and Africaness…”

The Department of History and Archaeology in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Education host an inaugural professorial lecture to be delivered by Dr. Waibinte Wariboko, Professor of African Social History at UWI, Mona. His lecture which takes place on November 14 at 5:00 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) is titled “Race, the Civilizing Mission and Africaness, 1800 – 1950”.
The Lecture explores the politics of identity construction and discusses some of the ideological issues that informed the uses and abuses of historical, cultural and linguistic evidence in the European framing of the black personhood or the African personality between 1800 and 1950.
The university community and the public are invited.
