The University Players re-stage ‘ART’
‘ART’; the most recent University Players production will be re-staged for four final performances at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona on Thursday, Friday and Saturday November 13-15 at 8pm and on Sunday November 16 at 6pm. ART features three of Jamaica’s top actors; Munair Zacca, Paul Issa and Alwyn Scott. In addition, Jean Paul Menou, nominated last year in the Actor Boy Awards category for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, has the difficult task of understudying all three roles. Once again, award-winning director, UWI Staff Tutor and Artistic Director of the University Players, Brian Heap takes up the challenge of staging this intriguing production.
The story of ART revolves around three friends—Serge (Paul Issa), Marc (Munair Zacca) and Yvan (Alwyn Scott) —who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when Serge buys an expensive painting. The canvas is white, with a few white lines...The three friends square off over the canvas, using it as an excuse to relentlessly batter one another over various failures. As their heated arguments become less theoretical and more personal, they border on destroying their friendship.
