Scientific Research Study

The University of the West Indies, Biochemistry Unit, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, invite volunteers to be a part of a scientific research study.

There will be two groups.  Group 1 will include Healthy adults (male and female) between the ages 35 to 55 years, who are Not known to have Diabetes and are non-smokers. Group 2 will include adults between the ages 35 to 55 years, who have Type 2 Diabetes and are Non-smokers

Participants will be asked to give blood and urine samples over a time period and on a date and time suitable to them.  Participants stand to benefit from free test results for diabetes and kidney function among others.  Individuals will also improve their knowledge and understanding of Diabetes.

One in every 6 Jamaicans suffer from Type 2 Diabetes. Scientific research in Type 2 Diabetes is necessary for the advancement of treatment options and discovering possible cures.
