Inaugural Professorial Lecture-Professor Lancashire
Professor of Computational Chemistry at the University of the West Indies, Professor Robert Lancashire will deliver his inaugural professorial lecture titled “Visualization of Chemistry and developing the power of the Internet”. The Lecture is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2008 at 5:30 pm at Chemistry Lecture Theatre (Chem 5).
Professor Lancashire is also the recipient of the 2008 Gleaner Honour Award for science and technology. The award recognizes the contribution and work of Professor Lancashire which focuses primarily on applying modern computer methods, using personal computers and the Internet, to assist in the delivery of chemical information. In 2006 Professor Lancashire released the Java software project JSpecView as Open Source. This has now been incorporated into the chemistry search engine, ChemSpider, which boasts a database of over 20 million chemicals that is freely available for searching on-line.
The Lecture is a part of the sixtieth anniversary celebrations of the University of the West Indies.
