Earthquake Awareness Week

January 11-17, has been designated National Earthquake Awareness Week, this year’s theme is “Earthquakes have no season, do your part, be earthquake smart.” In keeping with this, the UWI, Mona Campus through the Safety and Emergency Management Unit has organized several events to sensitize and prepare the campus community for earthquakes.

The week’s activities include Earthquake Awareness displays located in various public spaces across the Mona Campus. Presentations will also be given to specific departments that had made prior requests. In addition, Emergency Evacuation Drills will be conducted to create situations which would necessitate the evacuation of the targeted area. The activity will be unannounced. However, once the process is on the way Safety Monitors would be on hand to see to the incident free conduct. The process of the drill will be evaluated and a debriefing will follow at which the results of the evaluation will be made known.  Posters, fliers and brochures are also being distributed to the university community. Interested persons may collect information packages from the display booths or the Student Administrative Services Section, Annexe Building.
