Safety and Health: Approaches and Models in Emerging Economies

The University of the West Indies, Mona through the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Programme in collaboration with The Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the International Labour Organization have organized a presentation titled “Occupational Safety and Health: Approaches and Models in Emerging Economies.”  The presentation will be made by Dr. Alan LeServe, International Consultant on Occupational Safety, Health and Environment on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 4 pm at the Inter Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.

Dr. Alan LeServe has over 30 years of extensive experience spanning three continents - Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.  He is a former official of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and worked in the Caribbean from 1982-1988 under the ILO/Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) Caribbean project on Occupational Safety and Health, based in Barbados.

Following his tenure at the ILO, he served as a consultant for a range of national and international organizations, including the Agricultural Development Bank. For the past three years Dr. LeServe was the Senior Adviser on Labour Protection to the Government of Vietnam on the DANIDA Business Sector Programme. He was awarded Vietnam's highest Medal of Honour and Commendation for the Cause of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, for his work on labour protection in that country.

Dr.  LeServe has published more than 30 publications and training manuals, including "Occupational Safety and Health in the Caribbean - A Workers' Education Course" which was published in 1999.
