Brian Heap, Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona, has been invited by the Ministry of Education in Singapore to serve as an adjudicator for the Singapore 2009 Youth Arts Festival from March 30-April 16, 2009. The Festival will see an estimated one hundred and twenty (120) drama entries from secondary schools. While there, he will also be conducting a series of Drama workshops for teachers from these 120 secondary schools.

The link with Singapore was made in 2006 when Heap served as Convener and Conference Director of the Fifth International Drama in Education Research Institute hosted at Mona through the Philip Sherlock Centre.

It is hoped that the visit will create institutional strengthening opportunities for Jamaica, particularly with regard to the UWI Tallawah Drama competition held each November.

Mr. Heap has previously served as an adjudicator for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s National Drama Festival, the Jamaica Secondary Schools Drama Festival, the Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools Drama Festival and the Caribbean Regional Secondary Schools Drama Festival.
