“Exploring the Critical Social Issues Facing the Nation”
“Exploring the Critical Social Issues Facing the Nation: Education, Health and the Impact of Crime and Violence” is the theme of the 13th annual Derek Gordon Research seminar. It takes place on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 2 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.
The Seminar features several presentations by graduate students in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work under three broad areas namely: Perspectives on Crime and Violence in Jamaica, A Social Assessment of the Factors Influencing the Readiness of Jamaican Youth to Transition from School to Work or Higher Education and the Challenges of Health and Housing.
The Derek Gordon Research Seminar is held annually in dedication to the memory of Dr. Derek Gordon, outstanding sociologist and social activist.
