“Tertiary Education at the Crossroads”

The School of Education at the University of the West Indies, Mona will host an Education Forum under the theme, “Tertiary Education at the Crossroads”. The Forum is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Gold Room, Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.
The keynote address will be delivered by The Most Honourable Professor, Sir Kenneth Hall, OJ. on the topic, “the Role of tertiary Education in National Development”.
The forum also features panel presentations. The first panel is titled, “Regional Perspectives on the role of tertiary education in national development”. Participant for panel this include: Professor Ishenkumba Kahwa, Dean, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI, Mona; Jean Hastings, Executive Director, Education Transformation Programme, Ministry of Education; Steven Kerr, Manager, Human Resource Development, Planning Institute of Jamaica; Cheryl A. Foreman, Vice Principal, St. Joseph’s Teachers’ College; Dr. Carol Archer, Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment, UTECH and Dr. Angella Samuels-Harris, Principal, Montego Bay Community College.
The second panel is titled,” Financing Tertiary Education”. Participants include: Professor Alvin Wint, Pro Vice Chancellor, Office of the Board of Undergraduate Studies (OBUS), UWI, Mona; Danieto Murray, VP, Finance and Industries, Northern Caribbean University and Vishwanauth Tolan, President, Guild of Students, UWI, Mona.
