“Africa and her Challenge to Philosophy”
The Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy hosts a public lecture entitled, “Africa and her Challenge to Philosophy” on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 5 pm at the Multifunctional Room, UWI, Mona. The lecture will be delivered Professor Olufemi Taiwo, Professor of Philosophy and Global African Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, Seattle University, USA and Visiting Professor of the Department.
The lecture will explore the relations between Africa, its Diaspora and modernity. It will also propose possible reasons why Africa and its Diaspora have not kept pace with the rest of the world resulting in them being designated as ‘developing’ and ‘underdeveloped’ in the recent past.
The university community and the public are invited. For more information please contact Shayzan McBeam by telephone at 970-2950.
