UWISON Hosts Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day on May 28-29

The UWI School of Nursing (UWISON), Mona, hosts its annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day from May 28-29, at the School’s Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Jean Yan, Chief Scientist, Nursing and Midwifery, at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, Switzerland and Coordinator of the Health Professions Networks. In her current position, Dr. Yan provides leadership and advice on the formulation of WHO policy on nursing and midwifery. She will also officially launch UWISON as the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development in the Caribbean on May 29.

Dr. William McCool will deliver the Distinguished Research Lecture titled, “The Role of Research in Women’s Health Care:  What Are the Myths and What Is the Evidence?” on Mary Seivwright Day, Friday, May 29. Dr. McCool is a midwife for 25 years and Director of the Midwifery Graduate Programme, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia.

The Conference addresses several topics including: adolescent health, health care delivery, health promotion and diabetes.

The event is designed to empower nurses, midwives and students across the Caribbean region to use research to develop best practice in nursing and midwifery.
