Child Rights Workshop Hosted by UWI and UNICEF

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), UWI, Mona and UNICEF host the first workshop for primary school teachers on Child Rights on June 2, 2009 at 9 am at SALISES. The workshop is designed to sensitize the teachers on child rights, the situation of children, locally and internationally, the roles of the Child Development Agency, the Office of the Children's Advocate and the Children's Registry.

SALISES and UNICEF also hosted a Child Rights workshop on May 19, 2009 for secondary school teachers. The teacher workshops are pre activities for the annual Caribbean Child Research Conference, which is scheduled for October 20-21, 2009. The conference is aimed at highlighting research in child-related issues in the Caribbean. It is a collaborative effort by key stakeholders including SALISES, Caribbean Development Agency, Office of the Child Advocate, Caribbean Child Development Centre, Planning Institute of Jamaica, UNICEF and Ministry of Education.
