UWI Participates in Green Expo ’09

The University of the West Indies, Mona will be among the over 100 exhibitors showcasing the environmental work of the institution at the Green Expo to be held on June 5-7, 2009 at the National Arena, 10 am to 10 pm daily. In keeping with the theme for the Green Expo, “Climate Change and Alternative Energy”, the theme of the University of the West Indies, Mona display will be “Climate Change on Land, Sea and Air”. The display booth will feature an interactive three dimensional Eco-Dome showcasing several areas of UWI’s research such as landslides, coastal erosion, hazards, climate change and its effects, coral reef and alternative energy. The highly interactive display will allow persons to 'feel' what the temperature will be like in the year 2100 as well as to determine the impact on their neighbourhood should Jamaica experience an earthquake similar to the one in 1907. Other exhibits will examine water recycling and show visitors how to generate solar energy, all means of protecting the environment.
The Green Expo is a biennial exposition, organized by the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust (JCDT/ Green Jamaica) and the Caribbean’s first environmental exposition. The Expo is designed to raise public environmental awareness and promote the use of environmentally safe products and services and highlight the environmental work of organizations and companies.
